My First sketch of desired design that i believe reflected my identity written in my initial brief. Also the potential measurement of back flap.
Measurement and design sketch of front flap.
Measurement and design sketch of upper mouth.
Measurement and design sketch of lower mouth (realized I needed to add an extra 1.5cm on either side for wadding.
Model of design to see if it fits, added extra attributes (droopy ears).
Front shot of product, had added cardboard as a modelling tool to test.
Pulled model apart and cut toweling around model measurements, but adding an extra 1.5cm for wadding( drew on eyes to replicate where they sat).
Cut shape of ears our using my model as a guide and again adding extra 1.5cm.
Sewed the ears into the the body of my puppet.
Used googly eyes as final prototype (was originally going to use ping pong balls but weren't ideal to stitch or glue to toweling).
Had chosen materials for ears and body, they were soft and resembled similar dog "fur" textures.
Sample of chosen material for prototype: Toweling, polar fleece(pink), wool string, cushion inner, core flute, fake fur and felt.
Hand sewed core flute to toweling ( was best option, glue wasn't strong enough and too flaky).
Had decided to add more character to my product to represent my identity by adding in cotton material with the NZ flag. I had tested the Sumo glue on a sample of the cotton, cor flute to determine whether it was strong enough for inner mouth. This was unsuccessful so I used the hot glue gun.
Final shot after hot glue gun.
Used the brown fake fur (same material as dog ears) as my dogs nose, adding cushion inner to fill.
Used sewing machine to connect material together ( fake fur is very strong and durable) best system to use.
Connected both points together and curled under to the middle to create nose and sewed together.
Hand sewed nose into toweling.
After choosing an appropriate colour for my dogs hair (blonde/yellow), I wrapped the wool string around the palm of my hand multiple times to create hair and sewed the uncut end to attach to puppet.
I hand stitched the hair to puppet.
